U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos visited Indianapolis Friday for the National FFA Convention. She spoke with students and stopped by various booths focused on the marriage of agriculture and technology.
DeVos says visiting the convention is a way for the Trump administration to reinforce the importance of preparing students for life after high school.
“These students are having exposure to and experience with some of the career paths they may have never have thought of absent this opportunity,” she says.
DeVos also answered questions from the press about school choice in Indiana. She says it’s up to states to decide the best regulations for schools. Specifically when it comes to discrimination against t he LGBT communityin voucher schools and improving virtual charter schools.
“Indiana is a real leader and how they choose to continue to develop the program is obviously an Indiana question,” she says.
President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak at the FFA convention Saturday.
