The U.S. Department of Education announced it approved Indiana’s new four-year plan for career and technical education. It’s part of a larger strategy to guide both youth and adults towards jobs.
The approval means that Indiana will receive almost $30 million in Perkins Act funding from the federal government. They’ll use the money to redesign CTE courses under new “programs of study” that connect career pathways from high schools to community colleges and, ultimately, to a job
A dozen schools were recently selected to pilot the new curriculum before it's implemented statewide in the 2021 school year.
The plan also seeks to add an entrepreneurship capstone course for high schoolers in rural parts of the state and will allocate money to train juvenile offenders for the first time.
Despite the announcement, a Governor’s Workforce Cabinet spokesperson said the agency is waiting on a formal letter from the U.S. Department of Education.
