Sherie Scott, a candidate for the Metropolitan School District of Pike Township school board, was charged with felony domestic battery after being arrested at her home Oct. 2.
That day officers responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a Pike Township house at 4:15 p.m., according to an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Dept. report.
Scott, 41, was arrested for allegedly striking an adult male during an argument, according to a probable cause affidavit. The man was not arrested. WFYI is not naming the man because he is an alleged victim of domestic violence.
On Oct. 3 prosecutors filed two charges against Scott in Marion Superior Court: domestic battery committed in the presence of a child younger than 16, a Level 6 felony, and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor. Magistrate Peter Haughan found probable cause the same day.
An initial hearing was held Oct. 6. Scott was later released from Marion County jail on bond.
Scott did not respond to messages for comment from WFYI.
Scott is one of four candidates running for three seats in the Pike Township school board election on Nov. 3. The other candidates are incumbents currently serving on the board. Scott is a longtime educator. She's worked in Pike Township schools and was director of schools for the Indiana Charter School Board.
