A bill that would overhaul career and technical education across the state passed the general assembly Tuesday night. It would create several changes if signed by the governor.
House Bill 1002 would give the Governor’s Workforce Cabinet control of $50 million of federal funds. It seeks to create a statewide grant for career coaching and a program to keep college graduates in Indiana. It would also remove teaching license requirements for some career and technical education teachers.

Rep. Holli Sullivan (R-Evansville) authored the bill .
“Right now we’re just trying to ensure that employers open their doors to students before they get their high school diploma and allow students to be able to see what they can achieve right here in Indiana,” Sullivan says.
House Democrats largely opposed the bill saying it doesn’t provide clear enough rules for school districts.
