For a moment it appeared the Indianapolis Colts would be coming up just short Sunday evening against the Denver Broncos.

With seconds remaining on the clock, Colts kicker Spencer Shrader made a 60-yard field goal attempt and came up short.

But a penalty call on Denver gave the team a second chance and they took it with Schrader making the 45-yard field goal to narrowly defeat the Broncos 29 to 28. As the ball went through the field goal posts fans burst into celebration.

The win puts the Colts on a 2-0 streak this season, the first time since 2009. Head coach Shane Steichen says the locker room was amped up after the game.

“To get two back to back wins at home in front of our home crowd. The atmosphere out there was electric. [The] crowd showed up. It was awesome,” Steichen said. “We got to go do it again every week.”

Colts quarterback Daniel Jones said winning the first two games is exciting but the regular season is still young.

“One game, two games, you know, don't make a season. It’s a long, long season. You got to be able to sustain that,” Jones said.

He said the team will enjoy the win Sunday and then turn to preparing for their next game on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans.

“I think collectively as a group, you know, we’re confident about what we can be, and we know that we’re still, we’re still growing and developing,” Jones said.

After last week’s remembrance of former Colts owner Jim Irsay, this week the team honored Forrest Lucas, founder of Lucas Oil — the namesake of the stadium, who passed away last month. He was 83-years-old.

Lucas was born and raised in Indiana. In 1989, he founded Lucas Oil with his wife Charlotte Lucas.

Lucas Oil has had the naming rights to the stadium since it opened in 2008. In that time the building has been the home of the Indianapolis Colts and held many events including Super Bowl XLVI in 2012, the NCAA men’s Final Four, Gen Con and the 2024 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials. Last fall, the Taylor Swift Era’s Tour set the concert attendance record for the stadium.

A video tribute to Lucas played shortly after the game began and the game’s program included a remembrance of him and his accomplishments.
