City leaders are seeking input on possible reuse ideas for the nearly 60-year-old City-County Building, CCB, on the corner of Washington and Delaware streets.

The 28-story tower was one of Indianapolis’ first sky-scrappers and has been the workplace for Marion County government since 1962.  The city has known the building would lose tenants since 2018 when work on the new Community Justice Campus began.  About half of the City-County Building will be vacated when courts, law enforcement and other agencies move to the new campus southeast of downtown.

Proposals for ways to repurpose the building are being accepted through Oct 25. Recent studies of the site indicate it would take more than $30 million to repurpose the building. Officials have floated ideas that include residential or mixed use development.  Located in the heart of the Market East District, the lot recently underwent a $9 million upgrade of the Lugar Plaza.

A separate report examining the old City Hall as possible office space for agencies was also released.
