Sen. Joe Donnelly Launches Re-Election Campaign

U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) launched his re-election campaign this weekend. His visit Sunday to a veterans headquarters in Indianapolis was the start of a six-day RV trip around the state.

Donnelly mingled with veterans at their post on the city's west side, before giving a speech that centered around veterans issues. He stressed the importance of healthcare access, touting a bill passed earlier this month that provides over two billion dollars for veterans to receive treatment from a private doctor.

Donnelly has made veterans issues a cornerstone of his first Senate term.

As the 2018 election kicks off, the Democratic incumbent tries to frame himself as a bi-partisan figure. He says he doesn’t work for the far-left or the far-right.

“I just try to hit the ball down the middle," Donnelly says. "Do what’s right for Indiana, do what’s right for our vets here, vets all over the country. Do what’s right in terms of healthcare, in terms of Supreme Court votes, and try to move the country forward.”

There is currently a six-person GOP race to face Donnelly, which includes Congressmen Luke Messer and Todd Rokita.

Donnelly officially kicks off his reelection campaign Monday, at a workers union headquarters in Anderson, Indiana.
