Two Westside Nonprofits Awarded $200,000 Grants

Two Indianaplis westside nonprofits that address econmic mobility each won a $200,000 grant.

The Bank of America Neighborhood Builders Program awarded the grants to Christamore House and Family Community Center Inc. and Westside Community Development Corporation, or WCDC.

WCDC director Robert Hawthorne says the grant will allow the organziation to carry on daily activities and develop larger projects.

"One of our big issues here on the near westside is communication," Hawthorne says. "So, we're really looking at increasing the communication between residents and our various organizations so that we can have input as we continue to develop the community."

Hawthrone says WCDC will also use the grant to better pormote itself and create a social media presence.

In adition to the grant, Bank of America will also provide each organization a year of leadership training for the execuative director and an emerging leader of the organization.
