South Bend police officers fatally shot a man Friday near an elementary school after he apparently pointed a gun at officers during a stand-off, northern Indiana police said.

Police responded to reports of a person shot in the 2900 block of Madison Avenue just after 12 a.m. Sunday.

Three people were found shot to death Friday inside an Indianapolis apartment, police said.
