More than 30 people gathered outside the City-County Council building in downtown Indianapolis to demand the Marion County Health and Hospital Corporation withdraw its Supreme Court petition.

Legal experts say after oral arguments on Nov. 8, they think the Supreme Court justices seem reluctant to undo decades of legal precedent when it comes to Medicaid beneficiaries' rights.

On Nov. 8, the Supreme Court will hear arguments on a case out of northwest Indiana that could have massive national implications. WFYI’s Farah Yousry spoke with Tony Cook, an investigative reporter at the Indianapolis Star who has reported on mismanagement of taxpayer money and concerns over the quality of care at nursing facilities across the state owned by the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County.

The agency that oversees the Marion County Public Health Department of Health and Eskenazi Health has been accused of breaking Indiana's Open Door Law. This comes as the agency prepares to argue a case before the Supreme Court next month.

Patient advocates, members of the public and state lawmakers are urging the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County to withdraw a case it has filed with the U.S. Supreme Court.

Paul Babcock will replace current President & CEO Matthew Gutwein, who announced his resignation last month.

Matthew Gutwein said he will resign, effective Sept. 30, as the president and CEO of the Health & Hospital Corp. of Marion County, which owns 78 Indiana nursing homes.
