Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett announced Chris Bailey as the new chief of police for the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on Monday.

An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer shot and killed a man on the city’s southwest side Thursday night during an apparent hostage situation.

This marks the 15th incident in which Indianapolis police have been involved in a shooting this year.

A teenage student was shot in the parking lot of KIPP Indy Legacy High School Friday afternoon and later died.

Nine people were shot and one person was killed on Indianapolis’ north side early Sunday morning, at what police called a large party.

The incident marks the third IMPD shooting since Oct. 19, the 10th since the beginning of August, and the 14th since the start of the year.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department identified the officer who shot a man during a warrant investigation on Oct. 19.

The fatal shooting came after officers visited the same home five times on the weekend of Aug. 25-27.
