A mans family sued a state-owned nursing home in Indiana for alleged mistreatment. The case will soon be heard by the nations highest court, and the outcome could strip millions of vulnerable Americans of the right to sue government agencies when their rights are violated.

On Nov. 8, the Supreme Court will hear arguments on a case out of northwest Indiana that could have massive national implications. WFYI’s Farah Yousry spoke with Tony Cook, an investigative reporter at the Indianapolis Star who has reported on mismanagement of taxpayer money and concerns over the quality of care at nursing facilities across the state owned by the Health and Hospital Corporation of Marion County.

The agency that oversees the Marion County Public Health Department of Health and Eskenazi Health has been accused of breaking Indiana's Open Door Law. This comes as the agency prepares to argue a case before the Supreme Court next month.
