Gov. Mike Pence is increasing school safety grant funding by more than $3 million dollars in the wake of a shooting at an Oregon community college that left more than a dozen dead. But it also comes after the new state budget cut that funding by more than half.

More than two weeks after the first meeting of the Gov. Mike Pence's drug abuse task force, the governor is ordering state agencies to begin implementing some of the group's initial recommendations.

Chief Operating Officer Shawn Walters and Director of Special Operations Robert Wood were fired last week. The two had been suspended without pay last month after Pence canceled the company's contract and ordered the ethics investigation.

In a letter to the state's Congressional delegation urging them to reject the Iran deal, Pence says the agreement won't make America or "our most cherished ally Israel" safer.

Indiana Gov. Mike Pence is forming a task force to recommend steps that state officials should take to fight drug abuse.

From 2003 to 2013 - the most recent year for which data is available - the number of heroin overdose deaths in Indiana grew from three to 152.

Pence announced Wednesday he will leave Indiana on Sept. 11, making stops in Tokyo, Kyoto and Nagoya before returning on Sept. 18. He plans to attend the Japan-U.S. Midwest Conference, meet with business executives and government leaders and host an economic development reception.

The state's monthly report also shows the unemployment rate dropped from 4.9 percent in June to 4.7 percent in July. That's down a little more than 1 percent from this same time last year.

Gov. Mike Pence's Indiana Department of Administration wants $875,000 for the new doors because officials say they're worried about security issues regarding six doors that let government employees enter and exit the statehouse.

Individual income tax revenues performed better than expected, while sales tax collections came in slightly below target. But corporate income taxes badly missed the mark - 60 percent off expectations.
