More than 50 new apartments are open to people in need of permanent supportive housing in Indianapolis as part of the city’s Housing to Recovery program.

St. Lucas Lofts will create 48 new affordable housing units with supportive services onsite.

The city of Indianapolis is able to invest $7.8 million in four new housing projects.

The new building brings 61 affordable housing units with 15 designated for veterans.

The money will go to providers that work to keep people in permanent supportive housing, not transitional housing or emergency shelters.

The effort is one part of a recently-developed five-year plan to end homelessness in the city.

The permanent supportive housing approach made national headlines in 2015, when Utah announced its housing initiative reduced homelessness by 91 percent.
