Gov. Mike Pence came out swinging at Democratic opponent John Gregg in a kickoff of the Republican incumbent’s reelection campaign rallies.
Pence leaned heavily on an auto racing theme as he kicked off his three-day “Start your Engines” campaign tour in the shadow of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
“The primary is over, the green flag has dropped and the race is on to the checkered flag for a brighter future for all the people of Indiana,” Pence said.
The governor spoke some about his plans if reelected – mostly a continuation of current initiatives, including expanding preschool funding and combating drug abuse.
But his focus was primarily on his opponent, John Gregg.
“I’m not going to allow John Gregg, the union bosses and liberal special interests to reverse the gains we’ve made for all Hoosiers over the last 12 years without a fight,” Pence said.
The Gregg campaign said it’s not surprised Pence is trying to disparage Gregg’s record as Speaker of the Indiana House in an effort to deflect from his own record which, the campaign says, focuses on a social agenda that damages the state’s economy.
