Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition

The Coalition chose Sept. 25 for the vote on whether to strike. That day also is the add/drop deadline for semester-long classes.

The first resolution passed at the faculty meeting affirms no retaliation against any individuals, including Student Academic appointees for summer and fall, participating in the strike. The second resolution says that the IU Board of Trustees must engage in dialogue with the Coalition and provide a pathway to union recognition.

Around 1,000 graduate workers have been on strike for almost a week now. It comes after the university administration refused to officially recognize the union.

The Graduate Workers Coalition met Sunday afternoon at the Monroe County Public Library to discuss terms for the strike.

Indiana University formally denied a request from roughly 1,600 graduate workers to hold a union election, contending they're primarily students, not staff.
