The City of Indianapolis Thursday announced a pilot program to help fund infrastructure projects in 2018.
The program allows nonprofit community organizations in Marion County to submit proposals for projects that improve public infrastructure like roads, sidewalks and bridges. If accepted, the city will match funds for the project, contributing up to $1.5 million.
Mayor Joe Hogsett says it’s an attempt by the city to be more innovative.
“This will give us an opportunity to partner with neighborhoods in ways that frankly the city has not partnered before. But we don’t really know what kind of response we’re gonna get,” Hogsett says.
The city says it will award no more than $4 million total in 2018.
Money for the program comes from the city’s 2018 budget, which set aside more than $120 million for infrastructure.
