U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions touted the Trump administration’s law enforcement efforts Thursday as he spoke at a conference in Indianapolis.
Sessions made no mention of recent controversies concerning insults the president directed at him.
The Department of Justice under Jeff Sessions has sent hundreds more federal prosecutors into the field to help boost law enforcement efforts. Sessions touted Project Safe Neighborhoods, an effort to target the highest crime areas in the country, which includes a recent focus in Indianapolis and Evansville.
He also sounded the alarm on an increase in overdoses due to fentanyl, a highly addictive narcotic that’s led to a spike in drug deaths.
“Even a small case, give it attention. See if you can’t get that person to tell you where they got it," Sessions says. "And let’s go after them and let’s make a determined effort to reduce the supplies of fentanyl in this country and go up the chain as far as we possibly can.”
President Donald Trump recently denounced some of what Sessions was describing – making deals with lower level offenders to help target higher level criminals.
