IndyGo’s Red Line electric busses are having a problem holding a charge in the cold. Once temperatures are below 50 degrees, the bus’s charge becomes too low to complete routes.
Director of Public Affairs Lesley Gordon says bus manufacturer BYD offered to install two charging stations to fix the problem.
“We understand that there could be some impact with the weather, you know it happens with transit, but our goal is to provide the best service we can," Gordon says. "And we have a lot of plans and solutions in place to do that.”
She says drivers are monitoring charge ranges and switching buses out when needed. IndyGo plans charging stations will be installed in January.
The route’s medians on College Avenue also need to be replaced, due to installation errors and damages. IndyGo hopes to start replacing medians this month.
