Watch Workers Pour Bridge Decks At South Split

INDIANAPOLIS -  Contractors have completed pouring both concrete bridge decks on the northbound Interstate 65 ramp to westbound Interstate 70 at the downtown south split.

The concrete decks must cure to achieve proper strength before carrying traffic. In the meantime, construction will continue on the bridge approaches and railing. Crews will also repair ramp pavement and resurface the entire ramp with two inches of a durable asphalt specifically designed for heavily traveled roadways.

INDOT expects the northbound to westbound ramp to open before the end of July. All other interstate ramps at the south split and access to downtown Indianapolis remain open. Morris and Prospect streets are closed under I-65, although access to and from the interstate ramps remains open.

Here's a time-lapse video of the deck pours created by INDOT's Joint Transportation Research Program at Purdue University.
