Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a bill Monday that requires hospitals to ensure Medicaid members have the option during a delivery visit to get a long-acting reversible contraceptive, also known as a LARC. The new law also requires Medicaid to cover the cost of keeping a LARC option stocked.

Policymakers and families of medically complex children have been asking for a pause on the attendant care program cut since it was announced in January, following the $1 billion Medicaid shortfall. A House committee voted Tuesday against an amendment that would have postponed the controversial cut.

The report by the Center for Healthcare Quality and Payment Reform found a growing number of rural hospitals no longer deliver babies.

More than 1,600 children with disabilities would be impacted by the states proposal to change how their caregivers are compensated through Medicaid. The Family and Social Services Administration said the growth of the program is unsustainable.
