Sen. Jean Breaux memorial services planned for Friday, Saturday

Memorial services for Indiana Senator Jean Breaux (D-Indianapolis) are planned for this upcoming weekend.

The Indianapolis lawmaker died March 20, after missing the entire 2024 legislative session while dealing with an infection.

Elected in 2006, Breaux served the Senate for close to 18 years, representing the east side of Indianapolis and parts of Lawrence.

In her last public statement Breaux said, “Representing our community has been a highlight of my life and career.”

A lying-in-state service will take place April 5 at the Indiana Statehouse, 200 W. Washington St. The public viewing will be from 4 p.m. through 7 p.m. with the official program beginning at 5 p.m.

Another service will be held April 6 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 9610 E 42nd St. The viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with the service beginning at 11 a.m.
