Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced Tuesday that Elliahs Dorsey has been charged with murder for the April 9 shooting that killed IMPD Officer Breann Leath and seriously injured a second woman.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Leath and three other officers responded to a 911 call from an apartment in the 1800 block of Edinberg Square on the city’s eastside. After officers knocked on the apartment’s door, Dorsey allegedly fired multiple shots through the door. Leath was fatally wounded. A woman who had been inside the apartment with Dorsey also sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The case has been assigned to Criminal Court 6. An initial hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all Marion County Criminal Court hearings are being conducted via teleconference.
