Energy Assitance Event Expands Services

Energy Assitance Event Expands Services

A new community effort that kicks off this week aims to make it easier for Indianapolis residents to get energy assistance.  The inaugural "Its a New Day" event is serving as a one-stop shop for residents that are pre-approved for energy help through the Community Action Of Greater Indianapolis's program.

"We are expecting to reach about 10,000 clients during the ten days we're here," Cheryl Shelton, vice president of programming, said.

In the past participants have had to stand in lines outside to get signed up for energy assistance. The new event at the Indiana State Fairgrounds provides a safe, efficient, comfortable environment.

Local partners are on-site to provide energy saving tips, homebuyer and owner information and health insurance resources. The family friendly event runs this week and next with pre-scheduled appointments already lined up.

Residents that need assistance can contact cagi-in.org.  The next available appointment isn't until the end of the year.
