First Medical Center To Open In State Government Center

Gov. Mike Pence joined members from Indiana University Health at the opening of the new Health and Wellness Center in the Indiana Government Center.

It is the first medical center that will be housed at the state government center.

“It is a testament to the fact that Indiana is a state that works and it’s a state that works for the Hoosier,” Pence said. “Having the high quality of IU Health conveniently available right where you work is just one more way we are helping employers invest in their health.”

The Health and Wellness Center is focused on prevention and wellness. It provides many services, such as preventative care, wellness education, disease education and counseling, health coaching, immediate care, primary care, and other related services.

It covers state employees under the state’s insurance plan.

“We’re going to model for businesses and we are going to model for the nation to be committed to wellness in the workforce,” Pence said. “We are taking one more step to really model at the state level a commitment to wellness, a commitment to preventative medicine, and a commitment to encouraging every Hoosier to take greater ownership of their own healthcare.”

Last year, Pence launched programs including Healthy Lifestyles and Castlight to allow employees the opportunity to become better consumers and be more engaged in their own healthcare.

State officials say the new center allows employees to make a long-term investment in their health. Screenings will be available to educate employees on their blood pressure, cholesterol and other health stats and coaches will be available to address risks and wellbeing.
