IMA Releases Scorecard For 2014 Legislative Session

Staff Report – TheStatehouseFile.com

The Indiana Manufacturers Association has released its scorecard for the 2014 legislative session. The scorecard measures how often individual members of the Indiana House and Senate voted in support of positions backed by the IMA on select bills.

Patrick J. Kiely, President of the Indiana Manufactures Association, said positive business developments this session included income tax reduction to 4.9 percent by 2022, and the option for counties to exempt new business property tax. The IMA considered 21 House votes and 23 Senate votes as “priority votes” for this legislation.

“We applaud the five members of the Senate and 10 members of the House who earned a perfect 100 percent score with us this year,” Kiely said. “Legislative support for the positions advocated by the manufacturing community is a vote for lower unemployment and more high-paying jobs.”

Manufacturing accounts for more than 28 percent of Indiana’s gross domestic product, nearly 17 percent of the Hoosier workforce, and pays one-quarter of the total compensation paid to employees in Indiana.

According to the IMA, Indiana manufactures have added nearly 70,000 jobs since 2009 which is second most in the U.S. the manufacturing sector.
