IndyGo Hosting Public Conversations

IndyGo Hosting Public Conversations

IndyGo is continuing its forward momentum by hosting a number of public meetings.  IndyGo Forward is a study of how the city’s bus system is operating today and what the future might look like.

IndyGo spokesman Bryan Luellen says three public meetings are planned this week -- Thursday at 11:30 a.m. and Friday at 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. at The Hall.  An online town hall meeting will also be held Friday.

The meetings will focus on how transit service should be distributed.

"Generally when you’re planning a transit network there are two competing priorities, there is a goal of attracting ridership and there is a goal of providing coverage," explains Luellen. "So, we are looking at what the community feels is the right balance for us."

Indy’s bus system is planning a couple of major developments including the new Downtown Transit Center that breaks ground next week.  Luellen says this will change a lot for riders.

"The new center will require that buses are rerouted," says Luellen. "So, we need to answer some questions about what the community's values are before we shift anything too far."

The meetings will also display maps that allow people to imagine what the system might look like with rapid transit lines in place.

IndyGo will take the input, try to tackle any immediate issues and then weave ideas into a plan for a proposed 2021 network.
