The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department identified the officer who shot a man during a warrant investigation on Oct. 19.

Patrol Officer Ryan Thomas is an eight-year veteran of the department. Thomas has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

Police say they were responding to an unrelated armed robbery investigation at a Speedway gas station on the 2000 block of Shelby Street when they were told that a man with an active warrant against him was in the parking lot.

The man, 38-year-old Antoine Beech, was sitting in the passenger seat of a white Chevrolet Impala.

When police approached, they said they saw a gun within Beech’s reach and instructed him not to try and pick it up.

According to police, Beech reached for the gun and was shot by an officer.

Beech was transported to Eskenazi Hospital and is reportedly in stable condition.

An investigation into the shooting is underway.
