Number Of Hoosiers Signing Up For Health Coverage On Federal Marketplace Up 65 Percent

The number of Hoosiers who signed up for 2015 healthcare coverage through the federal marketplace is up 65 percent compared to last year.

Nearly 219,000 Hoosiers signed up for 2015 coverage before Sunday’s deadline.

According to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, that’s less than half of the uninsured Hoosiers who qualify for coverage under the Affordable Care Act.

But, Federal Marketplace CEO Kevin Counihan says Indiana’s heading in the right direction.

"No one is saying this was a perfect experience," Counihan said, "but if you look at the growth in Indiana, we’re pleased by the results."

The biggest push for coverage came on Sunday, the last day of open enrollment. Technical glitches prevented some from signing up, so the HHS is working to help them get coverage.
