Vets Could Get A Leg Up For Jobs Under Bill Headed To Governor

INDIANAPOLIS – A bill that would allow employers to give veterans preference when hiring for jobs passed the House and Senate on Monday.

The bill underwent minor changes that gave the preference to more veterans including former members of the Indiana National Guard and Air National Guard.

“Our hardworking Hoosier veterans often find difficulty when returning home to their families,” Rep. Karlee Macer, D-Indianapolis, said. “This bill makes it easier for these veterans to obtain employment while giving employers peace of mind knowing that their workforce is comprised of our nation’s heroes.”

The bill would also protect employers from lawsuits if they give preference to veterans.

Both chambers passed the bill and it is now awaiting the governor’s signature.
