The housing authority for the city of Gary is getting the largest of Indiana's grants at more than $3.5 million, followed by the Indianapolis Housing Agency at roughly $2.6 million.

The Roosevelt College and Career Center in Gary re-opened Monday, two days earlier than expected, after contractors worked over the weekend to make repairs on the school's aging heating system.

The students stood on the street outside Roosevelt College and Career Academy on Wednesday to let the public know about the problem.

Sen. Earline Rogers, D-Gary, announced Tuesday that she would not seek another term in the Indiana Senate, following more than three decades of service to the Indiana General Assembly.

Save the Dunes announced Thursday that it's acquired tracts of land totaling nearly 100 acres in Hobart, about five miles southeast of Gary.

The most recent Gary airport master plan was completed in 2001. That plan called for numerous projects such as the expansion of the main runway with added safety areas, which were completed this past summer after nine years of work.

Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson says she hopes the three-year initiative will help residents in her struggling city to feel closer to the police force, "and not view them as kind of a separate entity that imposes on them."
