U.S. Sen. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) has won the state's first competitive gubernatorial primary in two decades, according to the Associated Press.

Braun joins fellow Hoosier Republican U.S. Sen. Todd Young (R-Ind.) in casting his vote against Jackson, who would be the first Black woman appointed to the nation’s high court.

People opposed to the bill praised the governor's decision, but state and federal Republican lawmakers are still pushing the issue.

Braun’s comments Tuesday came as he discussed what he’s looking for as he evaluates Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson.
