Indiana Task Force 1 has been in New Orleans this week helping with Hurricane Ida relief efforts.

The National Weather Service in northern Indiana received an indication by radar of a tornado in Jay County which was verified by a spotter in Portland about 3:50 p.m. Friday.

The lightning struck a wooden cabin at the FFA Indiana Leadership Center in Trafalgar during a severe thunderstorm.

About 9 percent of Indiana is listed as currently experiencing a moderate drought, up from about 2.3 percent the week before.

The National Weather Service reported 0.27 inches of ice accumulation at the Evansville airport between midnight and 7 a.m. local time.

According to NASA, 2020 tied with 2016 for the hottest year on record globally. Though it was only the 14th the hottest year for Indiana, it marked the sixth year in a row that temperatures were above normal.

The report by Trust for Americas Health and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health ranked states based on how vulnerable they are to the effects of climate change and how prepared they are to address them.

The threat of severe weather includes several large metro areas including Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Louisville, Kentucky and Memphis and Nashville in Tennessee.
