AES, the parent company of AES Indiana, announced on Monday that it has agreed to be purchased for more than $33 billion by a group of large domestic and foreign investors — and could go private as soon as this year.

AES proposed a price increase in June, citing an increased cost of materials, labor and infrastructure. The proposal would have raised many customers’ electrical bills by over 13%.

And two strangers offered to pay one woman’s $2,000 electric bill.

Electric bills for Indianapolis area residents were expected to go up by more than $17 a month. Now, that increase could be less than $10 a month.
