Residents near a waste oil recycling company in Indianapolis have long complained of odor and other air pollution issues. Metalworking Lubricants Co. has had repeated water violations too.

Crews were investigating an underground pipe that ruptured in downtown Indianapolis and sent hot steam and debris into the air through a manhole in the street.

The 28-mile-long network of 18-foot diameter deep rock tunnels is being built 250 feet beneath the city.

Major sewer rehabilitation work at the intersection of 16th and Meridian streets in Indianapolis begins Friday and is scheduled through early next week.

Citizens Energy Group says far the left southbound lane and the two left northbound lanes will remain closed as crews replace a broken 104-year-old water line.

During a routine inspection Thursday at the intersection, Citizens Energy found a collapsed manhole structure. The company says it could have caused a sinkhole like the one that opened earlier this month.
