Indiana Disability Rights and ACLU of Indiana filed a federal complaint on behalf of two Indiana children who receive attendant care from their parents as well as the Indiana Protection and Advocacy Services Commission.

The Family and Social Services Administration said Medicaid spending is more than $100 million above forecast in its first monthly financial report.

The Family and Social Services Administration plans to move forward with a significant change to a Medicaid program utilized by more than 1,600 children with disabilities despite concerns from caregivers. The agency responded to recommendations made by families of Medically complex children to the governor.

Family caregivers of medically complex children will soon no longer be able to provide attendant care, meaning they have to transition to other Medicaid programs. The Family and Social Services Administration provided updates this week on one of the main programs families can shift to in July.

With about two months left before a significant change to a Medicaid program for medically complex individuals, some families say the Family and Social Services Administration has failed to communicate with caregivers and other stakeholders. A grassroots organization of family caregivers met with the governor and FSSA to express its concerns with the change.

The Family and Social Services Administration said Medicaid members 60 years or older need to select their Pathways for Aging health plan or they will be auto enrolled starting in late April.

Hoosiers with disabilities or who want to age in place may have a harder time accessing services under an important Medicaid waiver. The Family and Social Services Administration will implement a waitlist for the Aged and Disabled waiver, as part of its effort to address the states Medicaid shortfall.

Lawmakers efforts to halt proposed cuts to a Medicaid program did not make it into legislation this session, despite outcry from families of medically complex children. Instead, they sent legislation to Gov. Eric Holcomb focusing on administrative requirements for the Family and Social Services Administration.

The House approved several amendments to a fiscal bill Thursday to address transparency concerns around the Family and Social Services Administration. The amendments expand reporting requirements for the agency, but some of them may not make it into the final bill.
