Republican Sen. Erin Houchin of Salem announced Thursday, a day after Hollingsworth said he would not seek reelection, that she would seek the GOP nomination for the 9th District seat.

Republican Rep. Trey Hollingsworth announced Wednesday that he wouldn’t seek reelection to the southern Indiana congressional seat that he first won in 2016.

The seat is currently occupied by Republican Sen. Phil Boots, who announced in September that he wouldn’t run for reelection in 2022.

Indiana has recently experienced unprecedented revenue levels. And that has some Republicans exploring ways to send money back to Hoosiers via tax cuts.

State Sen. Ron Grooms (R-Jeffersonville) was first elected to his southern Indiana district in 2010. The Jeffersonville pharmacist authored legislation to address overprescribing of controlled substances and has been a leader in promoting the arts throughout the state.

The Indiana General Assembly has two new members, one a Republican and one a Democrat. Private political caucuses chose people Thursday night to fill the terms of two lawmakers no longer in the legislature.

Rep. Steve Davisson was first elected in 2010. A pharmacist, he served as vice chair on the House Public Health Committee. He had been forced to miss much of the last part of session this year while dealing with cancer.

The proposed Indiana House district map draws six districts that include two current Republican lawmakers.

Hoosiers have their first look at who their new state House and Congressional representatives will be. Indiana Republicans released the state House and Congressional redistricting maps Tuesday.

They are slated to release on Tuesday proposed congressional and Indiana House maps drawn behind closed doors, with a timeline for final approval in about three weeks.
