Indiana lawmakers are preparing to move much of their 2021 legislative session activity out of the Statehouse over coronavirus concerns.

The Indiana Women's Suffrage Centennial Commission commissioned the works to celebrate the women's suffrage 100th anniversary, adding them to the Statehouse's public art collection.

The incident happened Saturday while Democratic Sen. Eddie Melton of Gary was taking part in a rally sponsored by the Indiana Racial Justice Alliance.

Thousands of protesters are gathered at the Indiana Statehouse Saturday to bring attention to the case of Dreasjon "Sean" Reed, the 21-year old black man shot by Indianapolis police last month and the history of black people killed by police officers, nationally.

The union-organized rally represented Indiana's biggest such teacher protest amid a wave of educator activism across the country over the past two years.

The proposed 17% increase would bring premiums paid by companies to a level recommended by the federal government.

Last week the same state committee approved an amendment on a different bill that would prohibit the use of projectiles during active shooter training.

A section of both the House and Senate policies say employees are prohibited from bringing handguns into any meeting related to personnel matters, including evaluations, disciplinary action and human resource discussions.

The bill expands the list of those allowed to carry inside the state's capitol building, as judges, police and legislators are already able to do.
