In anticipation of the influx of traffic, the Indiana Department of Transportation has announced a roadwork moratorium for the holiday weekend, but some closures and restrictions will remain on larger projects.

With July 4 on a Tuesday this year, Indiana State Park properties are hosting their fireworks shows before the holiday.

AAA says cheaper gas is one of the driving forces behind an expected increase in travelers this holiday weekend. Nearly 45 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home.

IndyGo is also encouraging riders to plan ahead and allow extra time for their July 4 travel because special events and road closures will cause detours and delays.
