Teachers at Pike Township say they no longer support the superintendent even as the union and district leaders reached a tentative agreement on a new contract.

Around 2,700 community members have signed a petition calling on Pike Township School district’s Superintendent Flora Reichanadter to resign.

At least 100 Pike Township Schools teachers and families rallied in support of educator pay raises as the district and local union are at a standstill over a new contract.

Pike Township schools were forced to suddenly close due to lack of teaching staff and amid a dispute over pay with the local education association.

The Pike Township school district will resume in-person learning on Wednesday after a bus driver shortage resulted in students learning online for two days. The transportation problem kept students from reaching school buildings since last week, and forced the district to quickly provide virtual learning this week.

The Greater Indianapolis NAACP announced Thursday it will partner with the mayor and the county health department to offer free lead screenings to schools.
