Northern Indiana Public Service Co. serves about 820,000 natural gas customers and 460,000 electric customers across 32 counties.

The Merrillville-based utility says the demolition of its Dean H. Mitchell power plant and the site's environmental cleanup will cost an estimated $18 million.
