The state appeals court has ordered northern Indiana's Miami County to pay the city of Peru $104,000 for a water line county workers damaged while clearing a logjam from the Wabash River.

The study's findings mean that Peru has Indiana's highest proportion of properties at risk of flooding, and that it ranks 8th in the state for overall total properties at risk.

One farm being planned by the company near the northern Indiana city of Peru would cost $19 million and have about 40,000 solar modules.

Schneider Electric says it will close a factory in northern Indiana, affecting 306 workers.

The demolition is part of work to turn two Miami County intersections along U.S. 31 into full-on interchanges as part of a $190 million plan that continues efforts to turn the highway into a freeway.

The plan calls for logging to concentrate on removing stagnated and dying pine trees to create better growing conditions for healthy trees, including black walnut, cherry, oaks, hickory, poplar and maple.

The proposed route would use existing roads and trails to connect the 22-mile Panhandle Pathway running between Winamac and near France Park in Cass County and the 37-mile Nickel Plate Trail linking Rochester and Kokomo.

The Miami County Planning and Building Commission is eyeing new rules that would prohibit a wind turbine from being located within 2,000 feet of property lines, roads, public lands and city limits.

A leader of the Nickel Plate Trail organization says it spent about $12,000 to replace a trail section after heavy rains in June.

Schneider Electric in Peru plans to lay off about 70 workers and move some production to out-of-state factories.
