Federal court officials in Indianapolis are warning that scammers posing as court employees are calling people with cases pending before the court and asking them for their Social Security number.

The former president of the teachers union representing Indianapolis Public Schools pleaded guilty Monday in federal court for embezzlement of more than $100,000.

President Donald Trump nominated James R. Sweeney II for the judgeship last November and the Senate unanimously confirmed him on Aug. 28.

President Trump has nominated attorneys Holly Brady of Fort Wayne and J.P. Hanlon of Indianapolis to serve as federal judges.

The Justice Department says the Indianapolis-based district is one of 27 locations receiving new federal prosecutors to concentrate on violence-ridden neighborhoods.

The White House says Trump nominated James Sweeney II for the position with the U.S. District Court that covers the southern two-thirds of Indiana.

Medical and law history in Indiana will be documented and preserved, thanks to grants from the Indiana Historical Society.
