Almost three years to the day after USA Gymnastics announced it had filed for bankruptcy, a majority of survivors of sexual abuse in the sport voted in favor of a proposed settlement plan.

Olympic gymnast Dianne Durham, who died earlier this year, was remembered Saturday at memorial services in northwest Indiana as a pioneer.

An internal investigation by the Justice Department released in July said that the FBI made fundamental errors in the probe and did not treat the case with the "utmost seriousness" after USA Gymnastics first reported the allegations to the FBI’s field office in Indianapolis in 2015.

The settlement will be paid out to survivors. It's almost double what the organization originally proposed in January 2020.

USAG offered two options to the gymnasts: accept $215 million and settle all the claims or reject the offer and pursue their civil lawsuits and collect any judgements.

The $215 million total is the amount the insurance carriers for USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee are willing to provide in hopes of ending years of legal battles with athletes who were abused by former national team doctor Larry Nassar.
