No Limits, is the new weekly public affairs program on WFYI Public Radio. Hosted by John Krull, director of Franklin College's Pulliam School of Journalism, this local program will focus on the news stories of the week and the hot topics of concern to Central Indiana residents.
Krull and his guests will talk about the issues that matter to people, the questions that intrigue us and the ideas in politics, education, the arts and culture that interest everyone. They will take call in questions from listeners as well comments from listeners on Twitter, Facebook and e-mail. The goal is to create the sort of forum in which the wisest voice, not loudest one, carries the day.
No Limits will challenge every idea, whether it comes from the right, the left or the center, because all ideas get better when they’re tested. Nothing is off the table and no subject is out of bounds, because, on this program, there are "no limits."
Engineering Pharmaceuticals explores one of the major causes of rising health care costs – development of new drugs. It can cost up to $1 billion to bring a new drug to market. This program goes behind the curtain to see how drugs are created, and looks at efforts to cut costs.
Engineering Pharmaceuticals takes a step back and explains what, exactly, drugs do; how they actually act to attack diseases. Hear the sound of pharmaceutical scientists making new drug compounds as they explain the process and where its costs lie. Learn how engineers are helping redesign the drug manufacturing process to try and bring costs down. And realize the ramifications of these high costs in places where people can barely afford food, let alone muchneeded pharmaceuticals.
Engineering Pharmaceuticals is part of the Grand Challenges Series from the Purdue University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science and the Purdue College of Engineering.
IndyTalks – Provocative Discussions on Indiana's Future
To kick off the IndyTalks initiative, WFYI 90.1 FM HD1 broadcast an interview with globalization expert and author Richard Longworth. Veteran journalist John Krull conducted the interview live from Chicago, and listeners were able to call in with their questions.
Longworth is a senior fellow at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and Distinguished Visiting Scholar at DePaul University. He is the author of the book, Caught in the Middle: America's Heartland in the Age of Globalism, which explores the new realities globalization has brought to the Midwest and what they mean for the region – and the country. The book is being used as a starting point for the IndyTalks initiative.
About the series
In a citywide effort designed to foster a sense of community through respectful and creative civic dialogue, some of the city and state's most active organizations will examine Indiana's future from their own unique perspective through the IndyTalks initiative.
A series of community-based discussions will take place at different venues across the city to promote civic dialogue while exploring what it will take for Indiana to survive and prosper in the 21st century. Using Longworth's book as a starting point, Central Indiana residents will have the chance to participate in a series of exchanges themed on the question, "What is the future of Indiana and the Midwest?"
Participants are encouraged to talk, offer ideas, connect to their community and create solutions. They are also encouraged to keep the conversation going on their own by using the IndyTalks Facebook page and by heading to the Athenaeum's Rathskeller for freelanced monthly conversations on the issues raised during the series. Visit IndyTalks.info for more information about IndyTalks, including a complete 2010 schedule.
IndyTalks is a collaboration of the Athenaeum Foundation, Indiana Historical Society, Indiana Humanities Council, WFYI, Marian University, Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library, Big Car Collective, Arts Council of Indianapolis, University of Indianapolis Center for Aging & Community, Christian Theological Seminary, IUPUI Common Theme Project and the School of Public and Environmental Affairs, and Spirit & Place. Promotional support is also being provided by Smaller Indiana and IndyHub.
