About the Event
Join WFYI for a screening of Becoming Thurgood Marshall: America’s Social Architect at Martin University. The film follows the life of and legacy of the nation’s first African American Supreme Court justice. Marshall was a two-time HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) graduate from Lincoln University and Howard University. The event will include a panel discussion and take place at Indiana’s only Predominately Black Institution (PBI) Martin University.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Judie Conley, Associate Director for Institutional Equity – Civil Rights/Title IX Investigation, Butler University and president of the Marion County Bar Association. Panelists include TyJuan Garrett, a local lawyer and life member of the Greater Indianapolis NAACP Branch and Judge Tanya Walton Pratt who is the first person of color to serve as the Southern District of Indiana’s chief judge, and the tenth chief judge in the court’s history.
