About the Event
At this Data and Drafts, we will explore the newest data report from SAVI: Immigration in Central Indiana. Through this collaboration between The Polis Center, SAVI and WFYI, we'll explore immigration as it actually functions in Central Indiana: part of the region's labor market, its neighborhoods, and its role in driving economic access and opportunity. Central Indiana is home to over 200,000 immigrants who contribute $2.1 billion in annual taxes and hold $6.3 billion in spending power. They also make up a significant chunk of the community workforce: 23% of workers in wholesale trade, 18% in construction, 17% in transportation and warehousing, 15% in manufacturing, and 17% of STEM professionals. Together, they form an intrinsic part of the region's role as a logistics hub, its life sciences sector, and a manufacturing base.
Doors open at Central at 5:45 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 6 p.m. December's event will not have beer, but water and light snacks will be provided.
What is Data & Drafts? It’s a happy hour with data. It is an opportunity to learn through data trends about a social concern and how it impacts the world around us. Though there is a data presentation, it is less formal than SAVI Talks events. Participants are encouraged to socialize, network, ask questions and discuss the presentation findings to dive deeper into the topic.
Presented in partnership with The Polis Center, SAVI, WFYI Public Media, and the Indianapolis Public Library.
