In cases of child abuse and neglect, many children do not have someone to help them speak for themselves in court. In Indiana this role is fulfilled by a Court Appointed Special Advocate – a CASA volunteer. More than 24,000 Indiana children had a CASA volunteer advocate for them in court last year.

On Wednesday, many of those volunteers will gather at the statehouse to celebrate 30 years of CASA in Indiana and to promote its mission to lawmakers. WFYI’s Taylor Bennett spoke with Child Advocates CEO Cindy Booth about the CASA program’s strengths and challenges.
