Bartholomew County Board Blocks 100,000-Panel Solar Farm

COLUMBUS, Ind. (AP) — Strong opposition by neighbors has led a south central Indiana board of zoning appeals to block a proposed solar farm.

The Bartholomew County board unanimously to deny a petition by Vogel Solar LLC of Santa Monica, California, to erect 100,000 solar panels on 156 acres in the northeastern part of the county.

The (Columbus) Republic reports about 20 people who live near the proposed project pleaded with board members during a public meeting Monday night to consider the effect on their lives if the panels were erected. The opponents presented a petition with about 65 signatures and said other nearby residents didn't even know about the proposal.

The solar farm was proposed for a site about 35 miles southeast of Indianapolis.
