Civic Celebration Of Life Will Honor Founding President Of Downtown Indy Inc.

A Civic Celebration of Life will honor Tamara Zahn Friday morning. 

Zahn, who led Indianapolis Downtown Inc. for 19 years, died Oct. 1 at age 67.

The celebration will take place on Monument Circle – south half at 11 a.m.  It will also be livestreamed on Facebook --  www.facebook.com/DowntownIndy

Downtown Indy, Inc. is hosting Tamara’s family, friends and colleagues.Those scheduled to speak include:

  • John Myrland (invocation)
  • Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett
  • Allison Melangton, Indianapolis Motor Speedway
  • Former Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson
  • Malina Simone Jeffers, Malina Simone, LLC
  • Brian Payne, Central Indiana Community Foundation
  • Polina Osherov, Pattern, Inc. and Pattern Magazine
  • Denny Sponsel, RJE Business Interiors and chair of Downtown Indy, Inc.

All are welcome to attend the celebration. Masks will be required.

Downtown Indy, Inc. established the Tamara Zahn Downtown Impact Fund, benefiting beautification and innovation in the urban core, to memorialize and remember Zahn’s contribution to attracting and supporting young, professional talent.

In as statement, the organization called Zahn a "civic icon."

Downtown Indy, Inc. is saddened by the sudden passing of its founding president, Tamara Zahn, who served from 1993-2012.

Indianapolis has lost a civic icon who was a giant among corporate, nonprofit and elected leaders and peers. Her passion for Downtown Indy was unparalleled, which led to national recognition for outstanding urban revitalization, monumental development and unrivaled beautification -- all due to her inspired leadership and attention to detail.

Monument Circle will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Metered parking will be available on East and West Market streets.
